Tickets, located in the legendary Barcelona Paral • lel, gives shape to a new culinary adventure of Ferran and Albert Adrià. They have joined forces in this project with the brothers Iglesias. El Equipo Creativo (The Creative Team, which includes architects and graphic designers purposely put together to design Tickets) and architect Oliver Franz Schmidt have been responsible for shaping the design. They capture in this space the creativity of the acclaimed chefs, under a clear premise: «Please, nobody minimalist”.
In the heart of Barcelona’s original cabaret district, the roguish, emblematic Paral • lel, Tickets symbolises, in its 250 square meters, a world made after the likeness of the tapa (Spanish savoury snack). But how to represent a tapa? Since Ferran Adrià contacted architect Oliver Franz Schmidt on the 17th May 2010, El Equipo Creativo, have been following closely the cooking stations and the creative process that the Adrià brothers use to come up with their new culinary concepts.
The result is Tickets, a space structured in six bars which are in themselves six different tapas experiences. Each one of them sums up, in the same way that a tapa does with the most exquisite of dishes, the taste for diversity and multiculturalism of the most authentic Barcelona.
In the east wing is the area most in tune with the noisy, party-like and showy atmosphere of the Paral • lel. On the west side, the mood calms down to meet the blue of the Mediterranean, the waves, the light and the organised maritime district of Barceloneta, with its terraces and chiringuitos (beach bars). Amid all this, the Camarote (literally, the boat cabin), a playful and cheeky, in the words of its creators, “a beacon, a meeting point … Buy your ticket for the show of The tapa life”.
The overall feel is a feast for the senses. Not only the taste and the smell of the space, made up of the six bars, all unique and with its own story to tell about the tapa and what surrounds this small universe of haute cuisine.
The graphic image is omnipresent throughout the Tickets concept, and it reflects a chaotic theatre play that takes place between the stage machinery, where the colours and letters blur, “half way between Dada and cabaret”.
The glass cabinet – windows that are on the perimeter are at the same time large windows where diners and pedestrians find a showcase to soothe their thirst of knowledge about tapas, its origins, its history and preparation.
Tickets has an outstanding attention to detail. In the bathrooms, the toilets are Roca+Laufen and the ceramic finishes by Roca Tiles.
